Our sail training centre delivers dinghy sessions for 8-16yr olds off Manningtree beach.

We organise OnBoard taster sessions and RYA certified courses throughout the summer season.

These are opportunities to learn how to sail a dinghy with our qualified My Blue Pass sailing instructors.

2024 Summer RYA Courses

RYA Stage 1

3-4 day course 5hrs each day
Learn how to rig boat
Gain confidence on the water
Steer and tack
Understand the basic principles of sailing
RYA certificate on completion

This RYA stage 1 sailing course is a brilliant introduction to the Royal Yachting Youth programme that teaches children all the basics to get them sailing with confidence. Part of the course content covers launching and recovery, steering, sailing across the wind and upwind sailing. At the end of the the two day lesson all pupils should be proficient enough in their sailing skills to be awarded their Royal Yachting dinghy sailing Youth Level 1 certificate.

RYA Stage 2

3-4 day course 5 hrs each day
Tacking and gybing
Learn to sail around a triangular course
Ropework and knots
Make turns quicker and smoother
RYA certificate on completion

The aim of this course is to become confident and self sufficient in a small boat in light to moderate winds. Tacking and gybing are concentrated on to make your turns quicker and smoother. Ropework and collision avoidance are covered. Basic sailing skills are improved on aiming towards sailing round a triangular course unassisted.

RYA Stage 3

3-4 day course 6 hrs each day
Understand and deal with wind conditions
Capsize recovery
Advanced sailing techniques
RYA certificate on completion

Introduction to the ‘five essentials’ tacking and gybing in stronger winds, and helming a boat on your own are covered in this next stage. Course content also includes: rigging, launching, and capsize recovery plus more advanced sailing techniques and manoeuvres. You should now be able to use your own judgement when dealing with any conditions and have the confidence to take charge if out with a more inexperienced sailor. This course is a big step up from stage 2 and practice between stages is essential.

Our Sailing Season

2024 Sailing Season will include:

Term time taster sessions for our local primary schools which are provided free of charge for all participants

"Onboard" sailing activity days for more experienced students. £20 per session

RYA sail training courses will be held during school summer holidays 3 day course £180

Team MBP sail training days for those more experienced sailors and potential future instructors £20

MBP is a charitble organisation which provides opportunities for children and young adults to access water sports on the river stour.

All of our activites are subsidised or provided free of charge. in addition we provide bursaries for those who might not otherwise have the opportunity to participate.

Cancellation Policy

Every attempt will be made

to ensure the event runs. However, the event organiser reserves the right to cancel the event at any time when it believes that cancellation is necessary due to unsuitable conditions or insufficient numbers, equipment failure or otherwise..

Cancellation by the applicant: If you decide that you no longer want to attend the course that you have paid for, the following provisions will apply:

More than 4 weeks notice:

· If the course can be resold a 10% admin charge will be taken from your payment and the rest refunded.

· If the course cannot be resold the MPB will retain 25% of the total course cost, the rest will be refunded. Refunds will be processed after reselling the place or the start of the course, whichever comes first.

Less than 4 weeks notice:

· If the course can be resold a 10% admin charge will be taken from your payment and the rest refunded. Refunds will be processed after reselling the place or the start of the course, whichever comes first.

· If the course cannot be resold MBP will retain 100% of the course cost no refund will be available.

Cancellation by MBP:

The full course fee, including any deposit will be returned. MBP will not be liable under any circumstances for any cost or loss incurred as a result of its failure to conduct a particular course.
